In-class writing AmyY

"The Red Wheelbarrow" so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens What depends on the wheelbarrow?  Daily life for a family - A farmer who grew up poor wants to create a better life for his family. she owns a small farm that is barely keeping them out of poverty  Why it’s important -   Describe the daily life of a family that lives in this farm Main idea- you don’t need a lot to change your life and others around you. We are trying to create a background for this poem because we have limited information in this poem, but that also gives us more space to imagine. We probably just response a performance before the poem and connect to it. I will highlight the details in the poem since we only have three lines. "The red wheel, rainy and chickens" give us a sense of farm. Or everything is highlighted by us and we still need to work on it more.

Poem response--AmyY

The Red Wheelbarrow BY WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens Poem response What attracts me most about this poem is that it has few paragraphs and few words, which give readers more space to imagine. There are only four stanzas and four words for each stanza, which is really interesting and inventive. It describes a really clear and clean scene for readers. The scene described in this poem gives readers a sense of surprise. The color contrast in the poem is also very attractive, leaving an impression on the reader's mind. The poem is generally neat, with each stanza consisting of three words and one word divided equally. The last word in each stanza stands on a new line, reflecting the author's emphasis. I like this poem, it is concise but thought-provoking, ordinary but lively and interesting. The form of this poem is novelty, with few words and no ca...

Notes--AmyY

Eating Poetry BY MARK STRAND Ink runs from the corners of my mouth. There is no happiness like mine. I have been eating poetry. The librarian does not believe what she sees. Her eyes are sad and she walks with her hands in her dress. The poems are gone. The light is dim. The dogs are on the basement stairs and coming up. Their eyeballs roll, their blond legs burn like brush. The poor librarian begins to stamp her feet and weep. She does not understand. When I get on my knees and lick her hand, she screams. I am a new man. I snarl at her and bark. I romp with joy in the bookish dark. Notes: Actually I do not really get this poem, but the title and the first sentence of this poem attract me. There are some anthropomorphism. I think this poem has a lot of dreaminess, a sense of what the author is imagining. But it leaves the reader wondering what the author is trying to say. The poem is written about the author himself, the librarian, a...

Reflection on essay

Reflection 1.How did your final draft turn out? 2.What did you work on from your previous drafts? 3.Overall, what was difficult? What was easy for this assignment? 4.What are your strengths/weaknesses on this essay? 5.Finally, if your had more time, what would you work on more to improve this essay? 6.Based on the rubric, what 3 things you think you will get points on? What 3 things will you lose points on? I read over my essay yesterday and figured out some problems. Actually my second draft was not a complete essay. I missed at least one more paragraph and one conclusion, so that was the main part I worked on yesterday. Based on the suggestions from classmates, I fixed my essay for the context, own feeling, quotes and several parts. The most difficult part for me is to describe the meaning of the poem. The poem has only one main idea, except this I could write nothing. So it made me wrote some sentences that have the same meaning. I deleted some similar sentences. I h...

Only Know--Amy

Only know “Only hate the road when you’re missing home.” Just like when I study abroad, I started missing home. That’s my favorite line in “ Let Her Go ” written by Passenger . The poem talks about that someone  broke up with his girlfriend, and then noticed that he still loves her until  he lets her go. The overall tone of this poem is regretting, ruminating and sad. It tries to make people reflect that people need to cherish what they have right now, and do not lose it. This poem makes me feel the same empathy, because when I read the poem, I could relate to my own experience. Not only studying abroad, but also “Only know you've been high when you're feeling low”. Everytime I listened this poem always makes me thinking deeply. It often gives me some enlightenment, and that is why I like it. There are some repetitions that make this poem more rhythmic. There are some attractive sentences  be...

First draft of poem

I think the poem tries to make people reflect that people need to cherish what they have right now, and do not lose it. The overall tone of this poem is regretting, ruminating and sad. This poem makes me feel the same empathy, because when I read the poem, I could relate to my own experience. It talks about that someone maybe  broke up with his girlfriend, and then noticed that he still loves her. I like the poem because I have the same feeling with the author and he is saying the truth. Especially there is a sentence like " Only know you've been high when you're feeling low. Only hate the road when you're missing home." That's the main sentence that make me feel really empathy with the poet: when I study abroad, I start missing home. There are some repetitions. “You only need the light when it's burning low. Only miss the sun when it starts to snow. Only know you love her when you let her go. Only know you've been high when you're feeling low....

Themes of the poem
