People are waiting for the check. Walter Lee needs the check to pursue the liquor store with his friends, Willy. Beneatha receives a phone call from Joseph Asagai. Mama is talking about Beneatha's concerns about her family's ignorance of Africa. Beneatha thinks Africa needs help from French and British. Ruth came back from the doctor. She is two months pregnant. She tells this new to Mama and Beneatha. Ruth and Beneatha are worried about this kid since their poor financial situation. However, Mama wants the baby will be a girl.
Asagai visits Beneatha and gives her some gifts and clothes from Nigerian. He asks about Beneatha’s straight hair. Asagai likes Beneatha but Beneatha tells him she wants to be an independent woman. Then Mama comes in and Beneatha introduces Asagai to Mama. They talk for a while about Africa.
Later, check arrives. Walter backs to home and wants to talk about his liquor store plan. Ruth wants to talk about her pregnancy news to Walter. But Walter is not listening so Ruth is upset. Then Mama tells this new to Walter and tells him that Ruth is considering abortion. Walter does not believe that until Ruth tells him that she made a payment.
